Bassem Eid, a Palestinian human rights campaigner who grew up in the Shuafat refugee camp, gave the community his own account of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and who actually pays for the conflict.

    Palestinian political analyst and human rights campaigner

    Born in the Jordanian-occupied Old City of Jerusalem, Eid spent the first 33 years of his life in the UNRWA refugee camp at Shuafat. He was a senior field researcher for B'Tselem, founded the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group in 1996, and became chairman of the Center for Near East Policy Research in 2016.

Eid grew up in a UNRWA camp and made his name documenting abuses during the First Intifada for B’Tselem. He then turned the same attention on the Palestinian Authority, which is why he is invited to rooms like this one and denounced in others.

He spoke about what Palestinians live under, who is responsible for it, and why he says so in his own name. AIC ran the conversation with the Weber School’s Rams for Israel; sixteen organizations helped promote it.
