A three-way conversation on racism, antisemitism and hate, with Joshua Washington of IBSI, terror survivor Kay Wilson, and Israel's Deputy Consul General in Miami, Kasa Bainesay Harbor.

Speakers

  • Joshua Washington

Director, Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel

A composition graduate of the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music, Washington has planned music performances across the country and trained in Israel advocacy for diverse audiences through CUFI's Diversity Outreach Mentoring Endeavor. He has also written for the Boston Pops.

  • Kay Wilson

Israeli tour guide, author, and terror survivor

Survivor of the December 2010 machete attack she was guiding through when it happened. As a representative of Palestinian Media Watch she lobbies Western governments to end aid that rewards convicted terrorists. With a Palestinian friend she built The Yellow Brick Road, which teaches emotional intelligence and courage to Muslim children in a refugee camp.

  • Kasa Bainesay Harbor

Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of Israel in Miami

Born in Ethiopia, she immigrated to Israel with her family in 1991 at the age of ten. She has served as Deputy Head of Mission at Israel's embassies in Wellington and Yangon, and holds degrees from Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University. She is fluent in Amharic, Hebrew and English.

Racism, antisemitism and hate, taken up by three people who had each met a different part of it: Joshua Washington of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel, Kay Wilson, and Kasa Bainesay Harbor, who came to Israel from Ethiopia as a ten-year-old and went on to represent it as a diplomat.

Twenty-four organizations helped promote the conversation, from both Israeli consulates in the Southeast to Hillels of Georgia, ORT Atlanta and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Anyone who registered but could not attend was sent the recording.
