Re-Discovering the Land of Israel: Five More Virtual Tours

The second run of the series, five more Sunday mornings with David Sussman.

Israel’s Hula Valley and the great bird migration — 14 November. The valley divides the Golan from the Naftali Heights and Tzfat, and more than five million birds pass through it each migration season. Tel Dan is there too.

Ancient Caesarea — 28 November. Herod built the first entirely man-made port here, big enough for a hundred ships and meant to compete with Athens, which made Caesarea one of the great Roman-period cities on the Mediterranean.

Masada, a fortress in the Judean Desert — 12 December. People of every faith climb this mountain, and the Bible never mentions it. The tour asked why, and covered the last days of the Great Revolt.

Eilat, Israel’s port to the East — 9 January. Israel’s gateway to Asia, with its nature, its modern history and its farming.

Haifa: Mount Carmel, the Bahá’í and the Druze — 23 January. The Bahá’í faith is the world’s newest monotheistic religion, and its holiest place is in Haifa rather than Jerusalem.

Eighteen organizations helped promote the series, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta backed it through Jewish Atlanta Innovation.
