Getting Paid Back for What You Buy

Volunteers sometimes pick up what a program needs: water and snacks for an event, printing, or supplies for a packing day. Here's how to get it back.

Ask First

Before you buy, get a yes from Cheryl or from the person running the program. For anything over $500, get it in writing. A text or an email is fine.

Keep the Receipt

A photo on your phone is plenty. If there isn't one (a parking meter, say), write down the date, the amount, and what it was for.

Send It In Within 60 Days

Email books@atlantaisrael.org with:

  • a photo of each receipt
  • what it was for: which event or program
  • who said yes
  • how you'd like to be paid: the email or phone number your Zelle is on, or a mailing address for a check

What Happens Next

A board member files it for you, it's approved, and we pay you by Zelle or check. You'll get an email when it's paid.

What We Can't Pay Back

Personal purchases, alcohol unless it was agreed beforehand for an event, gifts or cash to anyone, and anything without a receipt or a note of what it was for. Mileage only if it was agreed beforehand.

Rather Not Be Paid Back?

Just tell us, and we'll send you a letter thanking you for the gift. For $250 or more in a year, the IRS expects a letter like that before you can deduct it. Your tax adviser can tell you how it applies to you.
